China’s Climate-Economic Relations and Climate Damage Projections

This paper systematically evaluates China’s economic impacts of climate fluctuations by constructing a 30-year panel dataset of 274 cities and 816 weather stations. Our results document a significant climate-economic relationship, with a 1℃ increase in temperature associated with a 0.78 percent decrease in output. Higher temperature damages less-developed regions more than wealthy regions, and the adverse impact relies on the trade-offs between geographic weather conditions and economic performances. Using integrated assessment models, we project that the model-average climate damage of China may account for up to 4.23 percent of GDP by 2100, based on a nonlinear historical climate-economic interaction.

段宏波：中國科學院大學經濟與管理學院副教授，長期緻力于能源-經濟-環境（3E）複雜系統集成建模、能源與環境經濟學研究，是全球和中國3E系統集成模型E3METL/CE3METL的領銜開發者。主持多項國家和省部級課題，以第一或通訊作者在Ecological Economics、Energy Journal、Energy Economics以及《經濟研究》、《管理世界》等國内外頂級/權威期刊上發表論文數篇，他是IAAM年度科學家獎（2019）獲得者，國際能源署（IEA）清潔能源轉型計劃CETP入選者。擔任IJRM、Energy Economics等多個國際期刊和書系的副（客座）主編或編委，同時也是Nature、Nature Climate Change、PNAS、JIE、POM等頂級期刊的匿名審稿人，Elsevier出版集團Science & Technology Books特約評審專家，
