Transnational patents and signaling from an emerging economy

Abstract：Is there knowledge adoption of innovations from emerging economies? We theorize that to help overcome information asymmetry across countries, the granting of patent to technology in the emerging economy of China can serve as a signal of technology potential and market opportunity to enhance technological knowledge adoption in the developed economy of U.S. The effect may be greater in complex technology sector with higher information asymmetry than discrete technology sector; and in regions with less developed market intermediaries where information asymmetry is higher. Our difference-in-differences estimates using 4,226 China-U.S. patent dyads and comparable U.S. patents provide support for our hypotheses.
李家濤教授 簡介：
現任香港科技大學商學院利國偉商學講席教授,管理學系講座教授、商業戰略與創新研究中心主任,科大高等研究院 (IAS)資深學人, 美國國際商務學會(Academy of International Business，縮寫為AIB)院士,美國國際商務學會(AIB)副主席(2016-2019),美國國際商務學會(AIB)2018年會主席。國際商業戰略的權威專家，緻力于推進新興國家的企業戰略研究。目前擔任國際商務頂尖期刊Journal of International Business Studies(JIBS)副主編(2016-),并于2009-2016期間擔任戰略管理頂尖期刊Strategic Management Journal(SMJ)的副主編(全球第一位華人學者擔任這一職務)。李家濤教授曾于2013年7月-2017年7月任科大商學院資深副院長, 2009年-2013年7月任科大商學院副院長，2006-2017年8月任科大商學院管理學系系主任。
李家濤教授的研究領域包括組織學習、戰略聯盟、公司治理、創新和創業。他的研究成果發表在Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, 和Journal of Management等管理學頂級學術期刊，獲得最佳論文獎多項。目前還擔任Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal，Journal of Management,Global Strategy Journal,Journal of International Business Policy 和Long Range Planning等國際頂級管理學期刊編委會委員。
